About
St. John's

The
Dedication of the Church In The Name of St. John the Evangelist
St.
John the Evangelist, by tradition the "Beloved Disciple"
of Jesus who became the author of the Fourth Gospel. His emblem
since ancient times has been an eagle, representing the soaring
vision of his faith, and this we use as our congregation's
symbol, for example our monthly magazine is called the Eagle,

†
St.
John's is part of the Diocese
of St. Andrews, Dunkeld, and Dunblane, and our Bishop
is the Rt. Revd. David Chillingworth. This
is one of the seven Diocese of the Scottish
Episcopal Church, which is a Province of the world-wide
Anglican Communion.
We
are always glad to welcome members of other Churches to worship
with us. Members of the Church of England, the Church of Ireland,
the Church of Wales, and of the Scandinavian Lutheran Churches,
( with whom we are also in full commuion by the Porvoo
Agreement ) will in particular find in St. John's a "home
from home". |

Parish Church of the area at Restenneth by St. Margaret, Queen of
Scots.
THE CHANCEL CEILING
This ceiling was adorned in 1947 as a peace thanksgiving and war
memorial to the fallen of the two world wars.It displays symbols
of the faith and of the Scottish Church. It was gifted by Mr Manby
Absolon Gibson and designed by Sir Matthew Oucterloney. Bt.
THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
We are most fortunate to have in our church some very lovely stained
glass windows, fine examples of work by craftsmen and artists including
Burne Jones, Charles E Kempe, & Septimus Waugh of York. We hope
eventually to include pictures and notes about the windows on our
web site, but in the meantime an illustrated booklet compiled by
Revd. Canon Malcolm Richardson, our Rector since 1996, and Col.
David Lloyd-Jones, OBE, a member and supporter for over 30 years,
is available from the church. Better still, come and have a look
THE REGISTER
The church register which records the Confirmation of HM Queen Elizabeth,
the late Queen Mother on Nov 5th 1916 (formerly Lady Elizabeth Bowes
Lyon of Glamis) may be viewed by arrangement.
Her Majesty kept a close link with St. John's and attended it's
centenary service in 1981
After her death in 2002 a special prayer service was held in St.John's
which included an address by Col. David Lloyd-Jones, OBE., a member
of the congregation who served as administrator at Glamis Castle,
HMs family home, from 1978 to 1988. The colonel's address included
personal reflections based on the many times, during his time at
Glamis, that he had had the great honour and pleasure of meeting
Her Majesty. Quoting from his address he said ''The four qualities
that exemplified all she did were loyalty, example, administration
and duty''
A special prayer was adapted for the occassion:
''Lord of all our days, we thank Thee for the years from childhood
to old age in which thy servant Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother
has been amongst us, and for all that has been accomplished in her
long life. As in this life she glorified Thy name. so beyond death
may she praise thee still and find rest, peace and joy in Thine
eternal kingdom, through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen''
